The most vulnerable children in Calgary come from households where there is poverty, neglect, abuse and/or domestic violence. They are children who may have been cocaine addicted at birth or suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome.

This is where the EvenStart program of the EvenStart for Children of Calgary Foundation comes in. Children in the program are between 3 and 5 years old and have all experienced some form of trauma.

The primary goal of EvenStart is to build resiliency and improve a child’s chances of succeeding in life by ensuring they are fed, in good health, have access to education and live in safe homes where they are loved, valued and encouraged to realize their full potential.

When this happens, EvenStart has ensured a more hopeful future not only for these children, but for all of us.
