Can you imagine the horrors that a young girl must face at home for her to consider the street a safer place to live? Most homeless girls aren’t bad kids; they’re just kids from bad environments . . . homes rife with physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.
Safe Haven Foundation, established in 1996, broke new ground in the early intervention and prevention of child abuse and homelessness with the opening of our Life Long Homes Program in November 2000.
This program, now known as Haven’s Way and operated by Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, continues to reduce the number of girls on the streets by changing one life at a time.
Haven’s Way is a residential program committed to re-creating a long-term family home for girls aged 12-18 who do not have a stable place in which to live. The girls are supported by full time, live-in house parents who provide a safe, supportive environment where the girls can complete their education, set personal goals for their future and maybe just be a teenager again.
With the support of this program, these girls have the opportunity to go from homeless to hopeful.
Safe Haven Foundation is proud to be a part of that hope.
